Sometimes It’s What You Can’t See That Matters

“You may never walk the same again.” I let the doctor’s words skim across my brain. I was 19. My femur snapped in half in a recent car accident.  After surgery, I now needed a cane.

Using a cane was not part of the vision I had for myself. I literally could not see it.   That’s not going to happen, I thought. I will prove you wrong.

It’s because I could not see walking with a cane for the rest of my life, that I fought long and hard to get better. I endured many months of excruciating pain in physical therapy.  It was so painful that I placed a pillow over my head so that I could scream. Loud.

When moving forward with your dream, sometimes it ‘s what you can’t see that matters. You can’t see yourself unhappy. You can’t see yourself without the degree you want. You can’t see yourself wondering about the ‘what ifs.’ You can’t see yourself at the same job for another year. You can’t see yourself leaving this earth having never realized the dream that you’ve been reluctant to pursue.

Beginning today, focus on at least three things you can do to jump start your goals. You will always have today. Start now. Remember, if you can’t see yourself not living your dream, then make sure you don’t.

Just do your dream.
