Let me tell you where it all began. Over 20 years ago I read the book What Makes the Great Great by Dr. Dennis Kimbro. It changed my life by allowing me to see my future differently in the stories of exceptional people.
In 1998, I attended the National Black MBA Association’s 20th Annual Conference in Detroit, MI. I was honored to meet Dr. Kimbro and attend his seminar. I introduced myself, told him how much I admired him and how much his book inspired me. He told me he was writing a book about African-American grandmothers. At the time, my grandmother was 98. She had 17 children (all by one man). We chatted a bit about the beauty and legacy of grandmothers and I thanked him for an inspirational seminar.
Fast forward to 2013 in Columbus, OH to the Black Enterprise Entrepreneurs’ Conference. Dr. Kimbro again inspired entrepreneurs and discussed his latest book, The Wealth Choice. I told him What Makes the Great Great was the inspiration behind the book I was writing, Just Do Your Dream!
A few years later when Just Do Your Dream! was completed, I reached out to Dr. Kimbro and asked for a book endorsement. He wrote:
“Montrie has not only written a best seller, she’s launched a movement. She gracefully points out that every great life begins with a great dream. We need only open our heart, step out boldly, and give our dreams wings.”
That’s all the encouragement I needed! I haven’t stopped encouraging and inspiring people to do their dreams. For Just Do Your Dream! I talked to over 100 people who all inspire me. My hope is their stories and others’ will inspire you to move toward your dreams, just as many people have inspired me to move toward mine.
